[58] 3х секционный дизельный поезд VT12.5/612, DB
The series VT 12.5/612 is a former Diesel multiple unit of the German Federal Railways, which was built for the first time in 1953. It was in service as two, three or four unit. The VT 12.5 had 2 class large capacity compartments. With the gathered experiences from the experimental multiple unit VT92, the VT 12.5 was design for the regional transport and was used there until 1984. Since 1968 the VT 12.5 units were registered with the electronic serial number 612. After initial service from Cologne to Dortmund the multiple units were stationed for many years in Hamburg-Altona and Braunschweig. In the appearance the VT 12.5 can be distinguished from the VT 08.5 by the additional center access doors in the middle of the unit. The Diesel multiple unit 612 506/507 was taken over by the DB hobby club in Stuttgart together with the center coaches 912 501 and 507 to be restored for the museum. After the successful restoration the multiple unit was dubbed "Stuttgarter Rössle" to commemorate the heraldic animal of Stuttgart.
