1984 the Deutsche Bundesbahn made another attempt to gain in attractiveness on branch lines. For the project "City Rail" the route that was selected first was between Cologne and Gummersbach. As rolling stock they selected the Silberlings which were updated with the most modern equipment. The livery of the locomotives class BR 218 were matched to the wagons to achieve a high degree of recognition for the "City Rail". Thanks to the new product the Railway could account for a dramatic increase in ridership. Now with light change red/white.
